SHAZAM!

Shazam (PG-13, 2hr, 12min, 2019) was a heart-warming, action-packed film. A little dark, I would recommend this movie for 8+. Be aware that there is a lot of violence and it can be a little gruesome. However this movie had a great message about family and belonging.

Shazam follows Billy Batson as he continuously runs away from his numerous foster homes in search of the mother he got separated from at the fair as a very young childhood. As he continues to mark potential mom matches off his list, he ends up moving in with a family who takes in all sorts of foster kids and gives them a home. While riding the subway home one evening after standing up to bullies at his new school, Billy is transported to a cave where he meets a wizard who bestows a power onto him unlike any in the books he’s read. Whenever he says “Shazam”, he turns into an adult with all sorts of powers from super-speed to being bullet-proof. He uses these powers to save people from getting hit by cars and other neighborhood things as well as make a handsome profit off of taking selfies with his excited fans. Everything is going great until he must face down a man that had been previously chosen by the wizard but had ended up being without a “pure heart” and not given the wizard’s powers.

The movie is great for a fun, exciting, family movie with a good ending! Happy watching! 👀
